Thomas is wearing the Canadian Machine Gun Corp cap badge. John is wearing the cap badge of the Canadian Engineers. Curiously, Thomas is holding a cane, which might have actually belonged to his brother John, who had an old leg injury from his football career. The photo was possibly taken while Thomas was on leave to England in January 1917.
