Site of the 18th "Rock Lake" rocket <br />launch in Southern Alberta... our home on wheels... registration at Tim's trailer... Jason's electronics... lots of campers with their <br />portable workshops... and some big rockets... Bruce's collection... launches started earlier <br />in the day... with mid-power... good recovery... flyers loading up the <br />hi-power pad... one of John Glasswick`s rockets... chute deployed nicely... and not that far to walk... Rock Lake18, 1 July 2016... Rock Lake18, 1 July 2016... last minute rail buttons required... install holes. Jason's hybrid motors... Rock Lake18, 1 July 2016... Rock Lake18, 1 July 2016... Rock Lake18, 1 July 2016... the wind died down, so Jason prepared<br />to launch one of his larger rockets... this was a three motor cluster, with a hybrid center <br />core and two outer composite motors... the flight started out fine... but then... things went off the rails... it turned out one of the composite <br />motors didn`t ignite... which caused the rocket <br />to destabilize... remarkably, the nosecone <br />somehow separated... and the chute managed <br />to deploy... and then fully inflate, slowing <br />the rocket down... for a soft landing, <br />virtually undamaged... a V2 rocket... with a fast liftoff... on an "I" motor...
